My name is Cathrin Hagey (she/her) and I live in the beautiful Canadian province of Saskatchewan with my husband and our two rescue dogs. We have three children who are all grown up, one grandchild, three grandpups and one grandkitty. Oh, and a grandhamster. I mustn’t forget Peaches.
Like many other writers, I fell in love with books during early childhood. I began writing for pleasure at age 11. I gave the first few pages of a handwritten novel (in pencil!) to my English teacher. When he marked it up with red ink, I gave up. I hadn’t gone to him for a critique. I simply wanted a bit of encouragement. Don’t we all?
Because I never considered becoming a writer when I grew up, I studied mathematics in university. After a brief stint as a high school math teacher, I homeschooled my children and took on various volunteer roles in my community. When my children were grown, I began adopting and training rescue dogs, learning a lot about the needs of reactive pups along the way.
I eventually began writing again, stories for children and adults. I became an editor and columnist at Luna Station Quarterly in 2014. Though I rarely blog these days, this site contains posts dating back more than a decade, including many of the fairy tale articles I wrote for LSQ. These days most of my writing energy goes toward creating spooky and/or quirky middle grade books for children.
